Sons of The American Legion (SAL) is a program of The American Legion established in 1933 in Portland, Oregon. Since then, the Sons of The American Legion have assisted The American Legion with their programs and activities.

Sons of The American Legion is more than just membership. Sons of The American Legion, on all levels, have worked together with The American Legion to promote Children and Youth programs, including the American Legion Child Welfare Foundation, in which the Sons of The American Legion have raised over $274,000 in 2003. Since 1988, the Sons of The American legion have raised over  $2,000,000 for The American Legion Child Welfare Foundation.

Sons of The American Legion have donated over 195,000 volunteer hours in the Veterans Hospitals throughout the country and raised over $1,900,000 that has gone directly to the VA hospitals and VA homes for a variety of items including TVs, radios, medical equipment and clothes for patients.

 

Sons of The American Legion continues to provide services to those in need in their local communities through programs that include fund raising events.

 

Membership Eligibility

All male descendants, adopted sons and stepsons of members of The American Legion, and such male descendants of veterans who died in service during World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, and Persian Gulf, during the delimiting periods set forth in Article IV, section 1, of the National Constitution of the American Legion or who died subsequent to their honorable discharge from such service, shall be eligible for membership in the "Sons of The American Legion."
